Chichester and District Cycle Forum meeting

This is a regular meeting of the Chichester and District Cycle Forum.    Everyone who has an interst in the betterment of cycling facilites in and around Chichester would be most welcome.  Note - The Forum (and all Forums in West Sussex) sees cycling as an means to an end - not the end in itself.   

Gina McWilliam’s tragic death on the A259 in Fishbourne is a major topic for discussion.  We will limit discussion until the full(er) facts of Gina’s case are known subsequent to the police investigation.  Chemroute is always a key discussion point.

Item 4 – Chairman’s Discussion.

What are our key achievements over last 7 Years? What strengths should we leverage and replicate?

What are CDCF’s Top Priorities for next 2, 5 and 10 years?

What should be in these plans? How should we increase our input and reach? e.g. engage with cycle shops in the area? Other potential stake holders e.g. Health organisations, Harbour Conservancy.

Item 5 – Concept of developing spokes for good access to and from Chichester City Centre for Walkers and Cyclists from rest of District and beyond. 4 to 8 spokes i.e.

If we can agree on number of spokes and their routes, then individual to take responsibility for a route each?

Each route is only as good as;

  1. Maintenance Plan; sweeping; verge/ grass & shrub encroachment; hard surface repair.
  2. Signage
  3. Connectivity between spokes and around city centre, a cycle pedestrian ring route?
