Cycling UK taking legal action against West Sussex County Council’s decision to remove the Upper Shoreham Road 'pop up' cycle lane

Cycling UK has confirmed it will be taking legal action against West Sussex County Council’s decision to remove a popular cycle lane introduced during lockdown.  See the full press release -  https://www.cyclinguk.org/press-release/cycling-uk-takes-council-court-irrational-and-unlawful-removal-cycle-lane

On Wednesday 24 February, Cycling UK applied for judicial review against removal of the cycle lane on Upper Shoreham Road saying the removal of the cycle lane is “irrational and unlawful”.   At the heart of Cycling UK’s challenge is the council’s failure to carry out an equality impact assessment before making the irrational decision to remove the cycle lane, ignoring the statutory guidance on the management of its highways network.
